Carl Storms

Boys & Girls Clubs in Tennessee - 2017 Hall of Fame Inductee

Carl Storms

Carl B. Storms has served on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Morristown for thirty consecutive years now.  He has served as Chairman of the Board (CVO from 2006-2008), Vice Chair of the Board (2004-2006), Chair of the Presidents’ Council (2008-2010), chair of the       Facility and Property Management Committee, served on several other committees and has been a leading donor and fundraiser for the Club.   Along with his wife Sandy, a major club supporter and program volunteer herself, Carl has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Club while also volunteering hundreds of hours in programs working directly with Boys & Girls Club members.  Carl’s interests in and support of the Boys & Girls Club extends way beyond his financial support and outstanding leadership.  Carl has mentored scores of teens through our Young Men and Women of Distinction programs, has provided special gifts for children at Christmas time, was instrumental in re-vitalizing our arts program by helping recruit  local artists to conduct special classes for members, has helped with several outdoor opportunities for kids, organized the purchase of a revolving rock climbing wall for members and most importantly helped lead an effort by his church to renovate the Club’s kitchen where he personally helps purchase, prepare and serve snacks to kids after school multiples days per week.
As an example of Storms long term commitment to current and future generations of Club members and their families with need, he helped spearhead the establishment of the Seals Scholarship Fund (in honor of Bill and Brenda Seals) which has raised tens of thousands of dollars to provide financial support for Club members to participate in school and community educational opportunities, to help families in emergency situations and to   assist Boys & Girls Club members transitioning from teens to adulthood.
Perhaps his most notable and recent contribution to our local organization was the awarding of a $100,000 grant from a local foundation to support the Club’s Career Launch program. Storms played an integral part in identifying and securing the largest grant ever received by the organization in its 59-year history. Looking to the Boys & Girls Club’s future, Storms is a charter trustee and a major donor of the Boys & Girls Club Foundation of Morristown, which is a separate 501(c)3 organization that has raised over three million dollars over the last 14 years.
Carl has received the highest honors the local Boys & Girls Club provides including the Golden Youth Award (1998), the Service to Youth Award (2000), the President’s Award (2005 and 2010) and Donor of the Year (2008). Storms also serves our larger community in many ways including: The Rotary Noon Club (Former President and 43-year member), United Way Board (Treasurer), the Morristown Hamblen Healthcare System (Hospital Chair), Covenant Health Board of Directors, the Morristown Chamber of Commerce Board, the Tennessee Technology of Morristown Advisory Board, the Foster Care Review Board and the Tennessee Concrete Association (Past President).
Carl Storms is a lifelong member of his church, First Presbyterian Church of Morristown, where he has taught adult Sunday School classes and serves as an ordained Elder.  Professionally, he has recently retired and is the former owner/operator of Concrete Materials. Carl has been married to his wife Sandy for 40 years and they have a daughter, Sarah. Carl Storms is truly the kind of committed and effective Boys & Girls Club volunteer that deserves, but does not seek, state-wide recognition.  He has been a great friend to the youth of Morristown and Hamblen County for many years.
